I really like this app from Aussie developer, PaddleDuck Pty Ltd, although if they're Australian I can't help wondering why they mis-spell the word colour... The app is a short story about a wee duck that gets caught in a fast-flowing river but is able to reach safety when his quick-thinking friends throw him a backpack. Each page starts off black and white but by tapping either the screen, the color blobs or the color palette, your toddler can fill the screen with lovely bright colors.

Because there are tons of good matching and puzzle games already and, perhaps more importantly, lots of them are FREE. The case in point is Mini Mining by Airy Labs. It's a well-done matching game; kids can play by themselves, against a friend, or even online in kid-safe environment against other kids around the world. And it is free. From our review: Once the game gets going, the goal is to make the matches the fastest. The full screen of unflipped cards is shown momentarily, so those with a really good, quick memory will do much better than those of us who do not. E beat me two out of three games. Matching certain items provides more points and power-ups. For example, matching rockets increases your card flip-speed and matching lamps provides a quick glimpse of the board. There are easy and hard modes, which change the number of cards to match on each page. Mini Mining is very well-done, especially in the online play where there seems to be no lag or other problems whatsoever. It is especially well thought-out and developed and definitely the best matching-game app in the App Store that I have tried.
